Due to MandM’s steady growth in traffic it has become necessary to move to a gruntier server. So stand by as we are moving forthwith! There is a risk that any comments left in the next few hours might be lost so for the next 24 hours please save a copy of your comments in case you come back and find your comment as been swallowed by the rift you can repost it.
UPDATE:
Well we’re here! We’ve just got some unpacking to do and we’re surrounded by boxes, packing tape and bubblewrap. Won’t be too much longer before all our side-widgets are back and the spam blocker is back online… (apologies for the viagra, porn and other spam flooding into various threads right now).
UPDATE:
We’re done! Transmission as normal.

Hope it’s easier than Glenn’s recent change-over!
Noooooo! Don’t say that!
I am sure it will be fine. Geoff (our host) knows his stuff.
Well… migration is done.. site is working, please let me know if it isnt 😛
Thanks heaps Geoff – it appears we lost the earlier comments on this thread but they seem to be the only casualties.
I just removed the last of the spam comments and now akismet is back up and running that should be the end of most of them.
So now we can stretch out and relax.
Some comments were lost in the move – more than I initially thought – I will manually put them back in now complete with times (they’ll just have my IP).
I must confess to being mystified by people who need to “shift server”. Why not use one of the many hosting services that are based in datacenters?
Scrubone,
This server IS hosted in a data centre. However, I was offered a new, bigger, more powerful machine in an enterprise class setup, and it enabled me to provide a better service for this site, and therefore you.
Fact is, all servers and service providers are not created equal, and blogs like this one grow, and cause load on services. The old machines couldnt handle it very easily and were becoming expensive to maintain. This one should hum along nicely for quite some time.
I’m mystified by the whole thing LOL!
I’m simply appreciative of the fact Geoff is not and pleased we can continue to grow the site’s readership without causing server load.
